BOARD OF DIRECTORS

With the exception of the Managing Director, all the directors are non-executive.

The board of directors of the BMFI acknowledges the critical importance of good corporate governance practices in the proper conduct of the affairs of the organization. The directors endorse the code of corporate practices contained within the King Report on Corporate Governance for South Africa 2002 (King Code 2002).

The board discharges its responsibilities directly. The board meets at least four times a year. Prior to meetings, board members are supplied with full and timely information ensuring that relevant matters are brought to their attention.

Lebogang has more than 15 years of experience as an executive and non-executive director in the Private Equity and Venture Capital space with operations and strategy implementation across the globe. He has worked across a broad range of industries including Energy, Infrastructure, Manufacturing, Transportation, ICT, Defence, and the Financial Services Sector. Having sat on investee company boards, representing private equity investors, Lebogang has experience in supporting management teams to grow market share and extend product portfolios among other value levers. He is passionate about working in dynamic and uncertain environments to help businesses unlock value and find solutions to complex problems. Lebogang has a keen interest in the changes in the alternative investment space and is currently reading towards a research MPhil (EBM) in Impact Investment and ESG at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (UP).

In 2019, Lebogang’s work in sustainability was recognised by the United Nations as one of the “Top 50 Global Youth Solutions for the SDGs” from more than 2000 participants from across the globe.

Mpho Motsei:

1. Brief professional background
Mr Motsei obtained his Bachelor of Psychology in 2010 from the University of Venda.
He furthered his studies in the same institution and obtained Master’s degree in Public
Management in 2014. He holds a certificate in events management which he obtained
from the University of Pretoria. In 2021, he obtained his Master of Business
Administration (MBA) from the University of Limpopo, the Turfloop Graduate School
of Leadership (TGSL). He has recently obtained a certificate in Investment
Management from the University of cape Town. He obtained it with a distinction.

2. Career and memberships
Mr Motsei is the CEO of Wellness Metrics Pty Ltd, a company he founded in 2018. His
company focuses of Employee Health and wellness services and community
facilitation services. Mr Motsei is also an entrepreneur who has founded several
companies and is the director of Hasi events management Pty Ltd, Hasi construction
Pty Ltd and Wellness metrics Pty Ltd. He has an interest in construction, employee
health and wellness, Safety and Security as well as Investments Management.
He is also an independent registered counsellor who is running his own independent
practice since 2011. He is an affiliate for ICAS and Careways and he is responsible
for rendering Employee Health and Wellness services (especially Trauma Debriefing
group sessions) in the Limpopo Region and the following are the companies that his
practice is servicing in that regard:

BOARD MEMBERSHIPS
Black management Forum NPC
He is a board member of the Black management Forum NPC since August 2020 to
date. He also serves in several committees within the BMF including in the Executive
committee.

Roslyn hub Investment Company
Mr Motsei sits in the board of Roslyn hub Investment Company as a non-Executive
director.

Computer Share Southern Africa
Mr Motsei sits in the board of Roslyn hub Investment Company as a non-Executive
director. He also serves as the Chairperson of the Social and Ethics committee and a
member of the risk and audit committee.

TGSL MBA Advisory Committee
Mr Motsei is a member of the TGSL MBA Advisory Committee, TGSL is the Business
and Leadership school of the University of Limpopo.

Levubu Laesrskool governing body
He served as a treasurer in the school governing body. During his time as a treasurer
the school has built a block of classes without the funding from the government.

Thulamela Local Municipality Disaster advisory committee
He was a member of the Disaster advisory board for Thulamela local Municipality from
the year 2013 up to 2018, a position that he served on full term.

OTHER MEMBERSHIPS
Black Management Forum (BMF)
He is currently the BMF President. He was a member and chairperson of Black Management Forum (BMF)
Limpopo, a position that he was elected on in August 2020. He was re-elected to the
same position unopposed in 2023. When he became the chairperson, the province
comprised of two branches and a total membership of eighty (80) members.
Under his leadership, the membership of the province has grown to four hundred and
twenty-one (421). The branches have also increased from two to three. Prior to
chairpersonship, he served at a branch level on different portfolios until he was elected
the BMF Limpopo Provincial secretary in 2017. BMF Limpopo is very vibrant under his
leadership and is recognised in most industries, particularly government, mining
houses, Financial services providers and institutions of higher learning in the province.

Limpopo United Business Forum (LUBF)
He also served at the Limpopo United Business Forum (LUBF) in the executive
committee of as the deputy secretary.

Health Professionals Council of South Africa (HPCSA)
He is also a member of the Health Professionals Council of South Africa (HPCSA).

Chairman of the Audit & Risk Committee, Board Member, and Member of the Investment Committee 

MANAGING PARTNER BCOM, BCOM (HONS), CA(SA), SEP (LONDON BUSINESS SCHOOL). Paul joined SPE as Managing Partner on 1 November 2019 and is responsible for strategic development of SPE, investment execution and management.

Prior to joining SPE, Paul was an Investment Director at Value Capital Partners (VCP), an activist investment firm on JSE listed companies and served on the boards of Adcorp Holdings Limited, Metair Investments Limited and Sun International Limited. Prior to VCP, Paul spent 8 years at Medu Capital as a Principal, a leading mid-market private equity firm, where he led and executed on a number of private equity transactions. Prior to Medu Capital, Paul was a corporate finance consultant at Investec Corporate Finance and completed his articles in the Financial Services Division at KPMG. Paul is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and holds a Senior Executive Programme from the London Business School.

Executive member of Serala CPA (Current), Founding Director of Lim Group Solution. An Entrepreneur, creative writer, and a publisher.

Classi Kgopa is the current Provincial Treasure of Black Management Forum Limpopo and a Provincial Committee Member of the Black Management Forum Limpopo. Classi is a former National Chairperson of Black Management Forum Young Professionals and a former Board Member of Black Management Forum. Classi is currently a member of the Designation Committee of the Black Management Forum. Classi has been with the BMF since 2006 and has represented BMF in various spaces, from the Student Chapter to Young Professionals.

Classi is a Business Accountant in Practice (BAP) who holds a National Diploma in Finance and Accounting from Tshwane University of Technology. He holds a National Diploma in Management from the University of South Africa.  He has other qualifications in Project Management, Management and Leadership, and other short courses.

He is currently the Manager of the Business sector under the Clubs and Messes section at the Department of Correctional Services in the Polokwane Management Area.  He is the author of various books written in Sepedi Home Language. He is a renowned author of note and a driven village poet. Classi drives for excellence at work and he is a professional with a business development spirit. Classi believes in ethical leadership that serves with integrity, effectiveness, and creativity.

Also, as a past National Chairperson of the Black Management Forum Young Professionals, he participated in and coordinated youth development policy amendments of South Africa for the National Youth Development Fund (NYDA). Furthermore, his involvement in BBC and BMF enabled him to develop significant networks across stakeholders.

Thulani Selby Mlangeni is a distinguished academic and seasoned investment analyst, specialising in corporate and public finance. Currently pursuing a Masters in Business Studies (Finance) at Tshwane University of Technology, Thulani’s academic pursuits have centred on financial accounting, public finance, auditing, and research in public finance. He holds a Post Grad Dip-Finance and Accounting, an ADV Diploma in Finance and Accounting,  Ndip Finance and Accounting from Tshwane University of Technology, and  Ndip Financial Management from Central Johannesburg Tvet College.

In addition to his academic endeavours, Thulani serves as a part-time lecturer, sharing his expertise in Public Finance Management and Professional Ethics with future finance professionals.

Thulani’s professional journey is characterised by his role as an Investment Analyst at Ehlanzeni District Municipality (EDM). In this capacity, he plays a critical role in fostering engagement with diverse investment stakeholders, including local businesses, investors, provincial government departments, and internal departments within EDM. Thulani strategically manages relationships with these stakeholders, serving as the primary point of contact for investment inquiries, trading information, and related processes. His primary objective is to advocate for trade and investment prospects, thereby contributing to economic development and strategic planning.

Throughout his career, Thulani has held various positions that have enriched his skill set and expertise. From his tenure as a Health and Wellness Administrator, Student Assistant, and Bookkeeper, to his leadership roles as a Non-Executive Director at Black Management Forum Investments and Audit and Risk Chairperson at CABLE TAPES AFRICA, he has consistently demonstrated his problem-solving, communication, and analytical prowess. Thulani’s advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and confident public speaking abilities have earned him accolades and additional responsibilities, underscoring his reputation as a highly capable professional.

Lizalise runs Mzo Ntsundu a consultancy which has pivoted industry exposure in
the property, mining, and pharmaceutical industry. The outfit offers bespoke
services to amongst others Tribecca Property Group, Kalagadi Manganese and
Growthpoint Properties. It prides itself in offering sound connecting-the-dots
solutions to clients and within its bouquet offering does market research and deal
making facilitation.

He is a strong marketing and key account management professional with extensive
experience across consulting services, property management, out-of-home
advertising, and the mining sector. With a Bachelor’s degree in Business
Administration specialising in Marketing from Milpark Business School. He has
established a robust foundation in business development and strategic
relationship-building, making him an ideal candidate for corporate leadership
positions.

With a strong track record in driving business growth, as evidenced by
achievements like restructuring the Key Account Management strategy for South
African clients at global professional service company Turner & Townsend, which
resulted in a significant increase in repeat business. His strategic relationship
management was further evidenced through playing a pivotal role in formalising
the partnership between Property Point and the Black Management Forum, which
bolstered Enterprise and Supplier Development (ESD) initiatives across South
Africa.

Lizalise has a talent for identifying strategic opportunities, and has successfully led
multiple high-impact initiatives. While at Growthpoint Properties, he was part of a
two man team that established the company’s third stream income generation
department. He managed income-generating campaigns across the retail,
commercial, and industrial sectors, liaising with legal and compliance departments
to ensure risk mitigation and streamlined operations. Furthermore, he
demonstrated excellence in stakeholder engagement and project through deal
negotiation and proposal approval processes that advanced the company’s mission
and vision. He is ardent believer in solving critical social phenomena and has
started a medical research foundation focused on erectile dysfunction(ED) as 4 out
of 10 South African men are sufferers.

Beyond professional achievements, he brings a record of leadership and
community engagement through roles within the Black Management Forum and
the SA-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where he has held chair and
vice-chair positions. These roles have honed his capabilities in managing
stakeholder relationships, fostering partnerships, and navigating complex
organisational structures. He offers a blend of business acumen, strategic
foresight, and a proactive approach to network-building that would bring
considerable value to the leadership of any organisation focusing on growth,
innovation, and impactful strategies.

Sonwabile serves as a Provincial Chairperson and a Board Member for BMF. He is an Entrepreneur that runs 3 companies, Njanya Logistics, Phambili Consulting and SOSBY Pty LTD. The businesses are ore focused in 3 areas, Transportation C Storage, Agricultural Manufacturing and Export.

He has over 20 years experience in Insurance and Banking. His expertise is in Investments and Risk management. He is also skilled in Stakeholder Relations Management and has experience is running portfolios in excess of R300 Million.
